About Juno MacGuff
Juno is the quirky protagonist in the 2007 film 'Juno' written by Diablo Cody
and directed by Jason Reitman. At the beginning of the film she narrates that it
all began with a chair, referring to the night she slept with her best friend
and bandmate, Paulie Bleeker. This one encounter leaves her 16, pregnant and
completely unprepared to take care of a child. She explores her options and
after ruling out an abortion decides to look for a loving couple to adopt her
child to, stumbling upon Mark and Vanessa Loring in the PennySaver. With the
love of her supportive parents and some help from friend Leah, Juno must not
only cope with her pregnancy but must learn some very grown-up lessons.
Juno
is not your typical teen, full of sarcasm and cynicism. But she also slowly
shows, throughout the film, a vulnerable and innocent side more fitting her
young years.
The character of Juno is played by Canadian actress Ellen Page. For this
performance, Ellen Page has received several major award nominations including
Best Actress nominations from the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and Academy
Awards.
